They have recently come to realise that the times are changing and that they must introduce innovation initiatives into their family empires in order for those empires to survive. They discuss their thoughts and experiences in a series of dialogues that are both humorous and reflective of real conversations business leaders have as they adopt new innovation processes in their companies.
The Lessons
The third cycle is a series of concise, information-rich lessons that every innovation master needs to know in order to succeed. Each lesson covers a concept, method or process. And each lesson builds upon the previous ones, as well as Jane's journey and the company presidents' dialogue, in order to build your knowledge and understanding of the innovation process.

Even though the title of this book sounds a bit mystical, the strategies and tools in it are so very practical. The author manages to create some intrigue and quirky story line while delivering significant and easy-to-follow lessons on how to create and manage the innovation process within an organisation.I especially liked the distinction between creativity of indivdiuals, and the innovation that results when organisations take action on that creativity.
I'll certainly be referring this book to friends and clients who have the responsibility of introducing new initiatives within their companies.

As someone who avidly reads books on innovation Mr Baumgartner's holistic perspective was a breath of fresh air. It should appeal to anyone involved or interested in corporate innovation and provides a balanced and informed viewpoint as to what to ensure does and does not happen in establishing an innovation culture. Three interlinked lines of insight provide spiritual, theoretical and practical perspectives which yield a great overview of what's needed to help your organisation compete in today's environment. However, it's not a heavy read but rather an entertaining and humorous one.
A series of questions and tasks are outlined to enable proactive readers to apply all the learnings to their organisation's unique circumstances and I can see these thought provokers providing the catalyst for a persuasive presentation to senior management.
What would make it even better? Not much but personally I'm also on a "make it more visual" crusade at the moment so that would be my suggestion for the second edition.

Very interesting book with a whole different perspective on innovation.
I liked this book, although it has no new concepts, the lessons on managing and encouraging innovation are really well placed and organized. Is of easy and light reading and most people will understand all concepts well. The language used is also really friendly turning this book a "should read" to all interested on the subject.
